A solar fence charger is easy to come by, NY, and may just solve your issues. Cheaper than getting your own hive too....and could solve other issues in your orchard, like deer damage if you extend your fencing to include the whole orchard.

They do. This guys is pretty paranoid. Has he had bear issues at his place or is he just trying to cover all the bases?

Seems a hot wire might be the answer. I like the solar charger idea for the hot wire, too.

Friend had 18 hives on his roof. Until roofer said, they go or get someone else to do work... Bees now on ground.

How neat!! I hope you get bees, Major...then you'd have fresh honey to drizzle on those carrots next winter. :D

They have a bee expo around here at the local university and I've been there but the last time I went was about 6 yrs ago and I was interested in natural beekeeping and top bar hives..not a person there would even discuss it, nor had any info or equipment on it. Maybe they do nowadays, but it's the only beekeeping in which I'm interested.

I'm thinking real hard about doing bees again...somewhere in the middle of all my spring projects.
