watching Food Network, advertising program. No Kid Hungry.

Great program, support free breakfast (or lunch) paid out of AG budget. Although social programs need to be removed from AG budget-another discussion.

Now what makes me SO MAD? People have children but take no responsibility for them. Have to pass a test to drive, anyone allowed to produce children. If no GOD, I'd hunt down their parents and take them out of gene pool.

End of rant! My son is faced with this every day in school.

I agree about the lack of personal responsibility, especially as it pertains to people producing children. But since there is a lack of it across the board it's guaranteed to show up with immature irresponsible people having kids.

I've had conversations with a few friends on this subject, (one has a business teaching preschoolers and deals with the flotsam and jetsam daily) and the conversation turns to the "people should have a permit to
reproduce" topic. That may be, but who would you trust to administer the testing and licensing? That question scares the tar out of me.

Like numerous other "feed the kids" programs, "No child hungry" sounds like a worthy charity. But, the feds are dictating and supporting these school food programs. I've always wondered how my money gets into the Federal program, how much of the donations are 'lost' in transit and how the Feds can be trusted to spend that money wisely?

Too late to put the jinni back into the bottle. These programs will only get bigger as a greater number of families become dependent upon the Government for their every need. And the children are as much victims as the taxpayers are. You can't blame them for choosing the dregs as parents. But everytime you feed a child or give them school supplies and warm coats, their parents are "gifted" with more money to spend on things besides their children.

I can't count the number of children I know would have succeeded in life if I had been able to bring them home with me. All my charitable funds are given to local programs and help people in need directly...no fancy buildings and high-paid administrators.

I agree. The lack of both personal & financial responsibility is rampant nowadays. I personally will only help those that are making a concerted effort to better themselves & their lot in life.

I also do not agree with the federal government being involved in any social programs. These are issues for the individual states to address (per the Constitution).

That's just it, there isn't anybody that you can trust with that. And if that system gets corrupted (and it probably would somehow) it would likely lead to very bad things. Otherwise I would agreed with that.

Also welcome to TEG w_r_ranch! I must have missed when you joined.

Where my son teaches, they have full closet of clothes for those in need. Cooks make sure these kids get "extra". Last year he had homeless kid who always asked when was next meal. His parents should be terminated.

Red, quite the dilema as too many charities spend too much money in management salaries, buildings, perks, office equipment, etc. not near enough money makes it where it is intended.

You can access information about how much charities spend on administration and weed out the ones that are heavy on admin and light on helping. I know I had a list of about 15 or 20 of the most popular charities and how they directed their donations. Pretty eye opening. I don't know where that list is...

I was pleased anyway to see that a few of the major ones we have supported are very dedicated to directing the funds where they are intended by the giver. We support locally and get a yearly accounting of where the money was disbursed.

I see lots of neglected children at school. Often, the parents were neglected themselves. They are not bad people, but they lack parenting skills, -and many life skills.
Is it a great idea for them to have lots of children? Probably not, but sex is free, and fun too, and maybe they were really drunk. That's the reality.
I don't know what the solution is, - it is hard to break the cycle.
