I see lots of neglected children at school. Often, the parents were neglected themselves. They are not bad people, but they lack parenting skills, -and many life skills.
Is it a great idea for them to have lots of children? Probably not, but sex is free, and fun too, and maybe they were really drunk. That's the reality.
I don't know what the solution is, - it is hard to break the cycle.
I get the fact that parents may have come from similiar back ground, but still no excuse. They are BAD people! They have money for drugs (both legal and illegal) and things THEY want. They need out of the human gene pool.

Last year he had homeless kid who always asked when was next meal. His parents should be terminated.

If, as I suspect, you mean their parental rights should be terminated. I agree! Unfortunately, the system for supporting these children is just about as broken as the homes these children come from.

No Red, IF not morally wrong, I'd take them out! I would allow murderers to live before child molesters. To me, they are child molesters-not in sexual sense. Some of us would have to step up-me being one of them.

Social programs need to be administered at local levels, telling federal government to get lost, do their job-balance budget, protect us against foreign powers and stop insurgents.

Here is a situation where we can empathize and sympathize with the children's plight, but can't affect change at this level. Steve's new word "IMPEL" comes to mind.

In every economy and in every nation you will have the classes of the “haves” and the “have-nots”.

“Cooks make sure these kids get "extra".” Do I believe that? Not for a second. That’s a feel good statement that has been made since before I was an elementary student. Every school has a cook that “gives a little extra to the poor kids”. On that note, I call BS.

For those that don’t know, free and reduced priced lunch and breakfast for needy school children has been around for a very long time. This is nothing new. No child in the US is ever denied breakfast or lunch at school, regardless of their ability to pay, without severe repercussions; which quickly lead to changes in the school districts policies. We, as a people, will tolerate the “no child left behind” policies. However, none of us will accept a “this child goes hungry” policy.

The problem stems from people having children when they can’t afford it. Why do they do that? Because the American social services system allows it. Welfare has become such a natural thing in the US that many poor people consider it a right.

“Hey, I can have all the kids I want because I’m on Welfare and I don’t have to pay for it. Plus, I get a big tax check when I lie on my return and doctor it to make the largest UIC on the list.”

“Hey, and now, I get free health care!! I don’t have to pay for anything!”

The fact is, the system is badly broken. Liberal or Conservative, it doesn’t matter. Nobody wants to take food away from a child. However, a slow tightening of the purse strings will reduce the strain of “unaffordable” children without the need of abortion (which I am absolutely against…it’s a child, not a choice). It won’t be easy or fast, but we need to get away from this socially correct posture and make people responsible for their own actions.

Needs to be more of us. We've become "tolerant" of everything! We went from kicking girls out of schools who got pregnant but Dad-NOTHING! Maybe a wink-wink good job! To now, it's get pregnant to become supported by government and never have to work! Both equally wrong.

C what happens when I watch Food Network? :celebrate

Monty, you would be incorrect on this school system. That kid eats till he can't eat any more and they send "care packages" home with him at night. Huge one on week ends. Teachers take him to clothes stash when his clothes need switched. I get the skeptism but there are people that do good without asking for something back. It is what our Lord asks of us.

Still want to take their parents OUT! HE stops me.

And don't forget, pregnant girls used to MARRY the father, anybody know about shotgun weddings? Now, the government PAYS the girl to be a SINGLE mother. And she will probably never climb out of the hand-out trap of poverty.
