Thank you all for your support. Again I must say that I am blessed in my life. DH is still the wonderful, caring man I bound my life to and this glitch in the road is something we can work on together.

I remember bringing my Dad to a Dr. when he was near the end. His hearing was poor and is eyesight was poor. The doctor, who did not know him, asked me how long he had dementia. I believe it is important to have a lifelong physician who really knows you and your loved ones. He was nearly as sharp as always mentally but the other issues made the 5 minute examination look like dementia. Be very careful that he is not removed from your home by some agency until you decide that is necessary. You need to get your finances in order so that a long nursing home stay does not leave you homeless. All states have different laws and you must protect yourself. I'm sure your husband's behavior looks different to others than it does to you. Did he have a MRI when he got injured? They should compare those results to the knew ones. Hope things get better.

:hugs I am sorry, Red, to hear what all you guys are going through. Sounds like a second opinion would be a good idea. Is hiring an in-home caregiver a possibility? Maybe even a couple of hours a day would help take some of the pressure off of you and give you some time for yourself.

My DH doesn't need anyone to come in and help him care for me. He is doing just fine meeting my needs (although a few wants are unmet). I am not seeking a second on the one on one testing that was done. Either there are therapies that will help or there aren't. We are okay with that aspect of his health. The other avenues are to find why this is happening and happening so quickly. DH already knows and likes the neurologist so he's agreeable to seeking more information that way.

Red, my DH somehow kicked the sofa and popped his big toenail off several years ago. It only took 9 months for it to grow back.

So sorry about your DH. I hope there is a treatment for him.

It was interesting (and sad) to read that you were shocked by the declarations of the doctor, after testing, of how bad off your DH is. But I do remember when my dad was slowly declining, that Mom inadvertently enabled him, and helped hide the extent of his disability. She would answer questions that were directed at him, if she knew he didn't know the answer. She was the navigator every time they took a trip, or even a short ride. She made all the phone calls, dosed out his meds, remembered appointments. When he was finally tested by a therapist, and Mom couldn't answer for him, it was remarkable how little he could recall. It was a real eye-opener for me, on several levels. I am not saying your DH is comparable to this, Red, but when the therapist takes someone out of their element, then starts firing questions at them, as apparently happened with him, it is not a surprise that they can't recall like we thought they should.
I sure you find some answers. Prayers sent to you and yours.
