The biggest thing I've learned ... or rather the biggest "AH-HA" moment I had was, "Eat food, not nutrients".
Which means, don't eat an apple because it contains fiber- eat it because it's an apple and apples are good for you. Don't eat kale because of a vitamin, eat it because it's food and is good for you.
Simple as that... but a BIG mind switch for this 'meal-in-a-box raised girl who actually believed that to be that "something really good' it had to be under a blanket of melted cheese or sparkling with sugar.

Bob, I'm not an expert, just a cynical old man. I'm convinced that different foods affect different people differently. I don't know if that is genetic or something else. And some foods might lead to cancer but help prevent heart problem, or lead to heart problems but prevent cancer, in some people. When they do these studies they use a group of people, not just one person. The recommendations out of those studies are the ones that benefit the most people, not every person in the study.

There are some medical professionals on here that might argue with me but I think a fair amount of medical practice is guesswork. They look at the symptoms and guess what might be wrong and treat that way. A lot of the time they are pretty good at it, but if it doesn't work, they try something else. The first thing they try is what works for most people. That didn't work for you so you tried something else. Maybe that shows you are not the normal run-of-the-mill person but kind of special.

The kind of health claims I was thinking about is that on a regular basis a superfood becomes trendy. An entire industry springs up writing books and blogs about it, selling column-inches, selling special supplements or t-shirts over the internet. You really have it made if you can get on talk TV to plug your book or blog. This superfood is supposed to cure the common cold, prevent cancer, improve your sex life, and give the most attractive person of the opposite sex where you spouse works a big zit on the tip of the nose. Not just any zit but a huge red one with an oozing yellow core. All you have to do to achieve all this is for you to eat that superfood. I'm exaggerating a little, and I know many people believe all this, but to me some of those claims are ridiculous. Sea Kelp was getting there a few years back but kale has really taken off, hasn't it. Not that there is anything wrong with kale, I think it's a great vegetable. But there are lots of other green leafy vegetables that are pretty good for you too.

I don't have rabbits but I grow kale and eat it myself. I also feed some to the chickens, especially the wormy kale, and then eat the chicken. I believe in a balanced diet.

I believe there actually are a lot of "superfoods".
You know, real food that hasn't been enhanced by any corporation. Stuff that any shmoe can grow or gather for themselves.

There are more than food scientists and bloggers and television hosts know about.
They are all out there in the garden and in the yard and in the woods.

Isn't the North Korean government trying to convince the populace that grass is good for you? :\

Whaaat? If kale is going out of style then there's no place for it in my garden!
What if the garden fashion police cruise by?
Get outta here you outdated veggie!

Mary please tell us the newest replacement as soon as you hear, we'll need to start seeds as soon as possible.
