That is a very nice setup. My husband and I hope to put one in at some point. When it rains here, it basically downpours, and there is a perfect spot to catch it all.

The key is getting good water circulating regularly and finding fish that can survive in hot/cold temperatures. We have a few ideas, but there are some local restrictions we need to look into.

Can goldfish survive freezing temperatures?

Goldfish are in the same Carp family as koi. Fancy goldfish might struggle, but regular bodied goldies will be fine.

i think the important caveats are that the pond has to be deep enough to not freeze solid and it has to be big enough to have enough oxygen in the water under the ice so that the fish can still survive even in a very torpid state.

My oldest koi, DiamondGlitterz, got tangled in the first net. Then a dark koi got stuck in another spot and a new koi got stuck on top of the net.
1st was barely moving, hope she makes it.
2nd was cut all around the head. It should heal with time.
Torn, sunken net removed.

Hopefully, I didn't fry the other pump. Went to plug it in and it zapped. Black plug tips. Oops.
