Gastric bypass surgery is a 2 edged sword.

Yes, if you follow intake guidelines you can lose a lot of weight.

However, when I was working as a nurse, I had patients who, years after the surgery, were going into multi system organ failure due, most likely, to malnutrition, since they did not eat enough food to properly maintain a healthy body.

For that reason, I personally, would never go through gastric bypass, Gastric sleeve, or any other food limiting surgery.

I have also known several Gastric by pass patients who lost the weight, initially. But then, gained at least part of the weight back, by gradually increasing food intake, stretching their remaining stomach pouch.

Journey, a lot of obesity is due to emotional eating due to problems earlier.

seedcorn, I'm with you. You need to get to that point where you say "enough is enough" "I'm doing this". I would like to lose 10lbs but haven't been able to stick to a diet. I love sweets and give in. Obviously I'm not obese and have the lifestyle to reflect that. If we are healthy we can get away with being a few pounds overweight.

Obesity is one thing. Being overweight is another.

Yes, there is a difference in a little overweight, fat , obese and morbidly obese. The 1st time I saw THAT on my chart I was shocked. I think it was one of many things that got my attention and desire to head off potential problems. Something that was not happening by wishing it away. :fl

There are serious factors causing overweight. For example, a hormonal imbalance and other diseases. If not, the rest of the weight in the brain. And get rid of it should be, respectively, starting from the head. When I had a girlfriend with overweight, that's what I said to her.
"Honey, for you need a strong motivation and a change of opinion. You need a good self-esteem. Let's deal with your excess weight together, if you do not mind. "
1. To find out the intention (why "overweight") (possible compensation childhood trauma) -
we are looking for another way todamage compensation.
2. How is the weight recruited / supported when - we are looking for a strategy of weight loss.
3. What are the effects of weight changes. - We will support the new reduced weight and strengthen motivation.
It works very well in this case Neuro-linguistic programming. It really works in reducing weight. It is necessary to build a program, how much weight you have to lose a year. It should be slow. At the same time it is necessary to inside the body mentally as the matrix slim body and always keep it in mind. (visualization). At different stages can be used "collapse anchors", "Treaty of conflicting parts", "Shift submodalities" ... This technique is described in the literature. (Secretly for girls) for the best effect, we cut out the figures of models and sticking her face. Then we put it in different parts of her home, but so that she can often see, but her family did not see and did not laugh at her. At first we did not notice the changes, but they started a couple of months. She not became very thin, but it is not the type of appearance for her. But she became much thinner. Her new weight stayed steady.

Don't go to my former doctor. At 6'1", his chart said 170. Even when I was playing ball in HS, I was heavier than that-& I was skin and bones. At 200, I look skinny. At current weight, not skinny. "

I was always thin. At about your height, @seedcorn , I didn't hit 170# until I was about 20.

Although I had questions about my health always, I was as tough as I was gonna get in my mid-20's. Still, my good health was dumped like a cheap suit in my late 20's. After I realized I hadn't died, things slowly improved. It was good that I regained some weight and it looked like I might stop at about where I was before but that just didn't quite happen!

Maybe I put more responsibility for my incompacity on excess weight than is justified but if I had continued to put on 5#/year, I wouldn't weigh 200# today. No, I'd be over 300# ..! Somewhere along that route, I would have failed at being able to get my legs under that much weight and to stand and walk.

Perhaps, the extra pounds will have to come off and stay off! The weight gains will have to be walked backwards or sat out. I may be looking for help to shed the pounds. Tears but not the years, in their stead ...

Excessive weight does put a burden on joints. Winter inactivity and eating too much is my problem. Wife doesn't help as she usually has meal ready and I'm not hungry. Then u get the 1000 questions, why aren't u eating, u don't like it, etc

My Dad is 6'1" and 176 lbs. is not enough on him. He is way too bony. My mom can barely find enough tummy to pinch up to give him his sub-dermal blood thinner injection.

This is not the quote thread, but I thought it appropriate:

I believe that it was gastric bypass that killed my Mother. She did lose a tremendous amount of weight - but was also anemic and suffering from malnutrition for the rest of her life. When she was diagnosed with lung and skin cancer (with NONE of the usual causes) she had almost no reserve to fight it.
If the opportunity presents itself, I tell anyone who I hear is considering this to think long and hard and to look years/decades past the quick weight loss.
