I kill and eat my chickens. Even those with names. :frow Love 'em, talk to 'em, raise them from a chick, watch their story unfold and enjoy every chapter...then I give them a good end to the story, and honor them by not wasting their bodies.

BTW....it's relenting!!!! :weee Warming trend, snow turned to rain....spring is coming!! Heard a robin singing the other day. :woot

Nyboy, I've learned that breed doesn't really tell you the characteristics of a chicken. My red sex link is my mean chicken. She has even drawn blood on my leg. When I attempted to smooth some feathers on a hen, she started attacking me. The only reason she's still here is that she lays everyday even in winter.

If you think Cochin bantams have an attitude, Wyandotte would be aggressive. My Cochins were the most laid back chickens in world. Could walk up to them and pick them up. Lazy would be another word for them. Not as bad as silkies but they would go broody on a rock....

In order of friendliness, my chickens are:

1: Golden Comet and Speckled Sussex
2: Easter Eggers (one still jumps in my lap at any opportunity)
3: Red Star
4: White and Barred Plymouth Rocks

Even though the Sussex are friendly, one of them follows me around and nips at the back of my legs. I have to chase her off occasionally.

And it is snowing again...looks like 6 inches by morning. If I was a chicken I wouldn't lay an egg either!

Sun's out, ice and snow melting...the crows are back and nesting!!! :celebrate Spring is a done deal...buds on the trees already. Winter will most likely fling a few more bad words our way but it's dying and it knows it. :clap
