We saw the weather and went home early Tuesday, and stayed home yesterday. All local schools AND the county courthouse were closed Wednesday, and now most rural schools are still closed. FINALLY, some wisdom. We have 2 interstates that cross in Champaign-Urbana--I-57 and I-74 and they are both skating rinks today. Fortunately we bought a heavy duty snowblower for our ~6 inches of new snow from the past 2 days, so we could "shovel" out.
When we lived in town we had our 1 car garage stuffed and couldn't used it. NOW that we live out in the country, we have a 4 car garage and we can get 4 cars in it. When we left this morning the car's temperature was 26 degrees F and the outside temperature was 1 degree F.
Sad to say, but I am getting USED to this crappy weather!!! :he

That Norwegian cooking guy on PBS, Andreas Viestad . . . or, maybe it was Burt Wolf . . . coulda been Howlin' Wolf . . .

Anyway, the story was that chocolate was considered a staple for Norwegian sailors 100 years ago.

I had about all the tea I could stand, yesterday.

AHA! I am a descendent from a Scandinavian country (we suspect there's some Vikings lurking in the closet) and that totally explains why chocolate is a staple in MY diet! Finally! Some validation to my theory!

I had an ABS sensor ring go out on my vehicle Sunday just before another heavy snowfall. No ABS or 4-wheel drive until I can get it in the shop. Gonna cost me of course...those computerized parts always do. Bye bye tax return. We had a slip sliding trip home after the Superbowl. Glad I didn't have a wreck after wasting my time watching the most boring game ever! :p

Local schools have maybe been in session 4 days here and there out of the past 3 weeks. A couple of the counties directly below us have been out even longer due to that chemical spill that contaminated public water in the state capital and surrounding areas. (How on earth that could happen... Gonna be some major lawsuits come out of it too.) We've had school though, since we don't have to go anywhere. ;) Except for a couple of days where we all had a stomach bug.

I've been craving chocolate for days. I know it's this weather!

It is now 19.1* with 0.0 mph for non existent wind. I just measured 7" ( a record for this area) of snow on our driveway with slippery ice underneath the snow. I just brewed a cup of HOT chocolate :drool , then after I get it downed, I intend to hibernate . :)

Wow Bob, 7" is a record?! sounds pretty wimpy for around here but that's the interesting thing about weather - different and the same everywhere!

We had a record low yesterday, -23. Its warming up today though, currently 3 degrees above zero, yay!

I think there is a zone 8 and maybe a 9 on the Washington coast. I am in a parking lot and too frozen to make this tablet enlarge the online USDA hardiness map!

I remember that parts of Louisiana and Washington share the same zone. (shows you what limited value that zone info has!)

I don't know might take subzero if this snow, 10*, and 12mph breeze would be replaced by a little sun & no wind. Oh! Time to go home where it's warm!
