a few inches on sandy soil and that goes right in. takes a lot more than that to move it, but when it happens it is a mess.

here on the clay an inch will get it wet after a dry spell, a few inches will start getting some small puddles, 4 inches, in a short period of time will be a mild flash flood. after that we're talking water over the roads. spread it out over a few days and it's all good. we've probably had six inches of rain this past four days or so and there's no standing water anyplace. all soaked in so far.

the rains forecast for this afternoon didn't happen, which is good, nice breeze out there now, wish i had a headlamp i'd go out and pick beans all night.

We got 2 1/4" of rain yesterday, bringing us up to a total of 6 1/2". And I woke up to rain and thunder this morning. The ground is saturated now and creeks are out of their banks. Will probably get another inch or two of rain.
And we are still BONE dry. :( Yesterday the county issued a burn ban until further notice.

Just came in from washing tomatoes. It had cooled from the afternoon high, a little. Didn't get the house as thoroughly ventilated this morning because we left for the garden before 8 am. AC working harder because of that.

One more day in the 90's, then we will see!

the forecast i looked at yesterday sure didn't hold for today. no rain in the forecast for today. nope. it's raining now. i should know by now this year that the forecasts are mostly useless... *sigh*

since there is dewfall anyways on the beans this doesn't matter but i'll have to get out and get the dry beans picked and then dried off ASAP, especially those that are projects for others or experimental plantings i need to check before i get back to picking the bulk eating beans that were ready to come in.

probably should also check the squash and tomatoes...

On the forecast, it's always been off. My father never stopped complaining how they messed it up and there's not too much of a change even today.
