@Marie2020 ,

afternoon 36°c

enjoying his morning cup of tea

it is sunny and almost 22°C out there with no breeze at all. at least things will be dry when i go back out to pick when this break is over at 6pm.

the cooler weather is here at last, tonight's forecast is to go down to 9°C. that is the coolest night this week (if the forecast is right).

the high for Tues is around 17°C.

the highest temp this week is forecast at 25°C.

a lot of chances of rain scattered through this week.

A bit if a jump in temperature.

We are having light changes here. It looked as if there was a storm coming over with black clouds earlier, then this yellow, as if sun was trying to come out, but no sun, then a nice blue sky with small dark clouds. Last night around 8, this yellow, in another area someone said it was pink. It is most certainly colourful :)

My guess is that @ninnymary has a similar climate to yours, Marie.

However, she is so close to California's Central Valley that it is probably surprising to her and her neighbors that it's so much cooler during Bay Area summers. Just across that valley are the very high Sierra Nevada mountains and their alpine weather.

I know that the UK has mountains but I wonder about deserts and semi-arid regions.

When it was 36°c, the humidity was 10% and the dew point was 0°c. In other words, the would have to be frozen to squeeze any moisture out of it. So, the dry air cannot "blanket" the land with moisture and, overnight, the temperature plunges.

This jumping up and down in temperatures is common but this is a bit extreme! I looked at some nearby communities: Wallace Idaho is in the mountains and close to the Montana border, 34°c (93°f) after a morning of 6°c (42°f). Deer Park Washington isn't in the mountains and it was 34°c (93°f) after a morning of 7°c (44°f).

Central California has what looks like a serious problem developing with out-of-control ..

. wildfires.

Our air way up here has been smoky for a few days but didn't go back to "good" overnight. The Pacific Northwest fires aren't close but high winds are predicted for tomorrow.

I loathe to hear about wild fires. I do hope you are all safe where you are.
