I planted some cabbage, collards and kale. Then it rained hard. DS is helping me get the asparagus bed ready. I ordered them before all this happened with DH, so 40 asparagus plants, 2 rhubarb, a free peony plant all arrived today. I cut some mustard greens for supper and picked the first strawberries.

I bought some clearance plants:
8 head lettuce
6 moss rose
4 jalepano peppers
and transplanted those plus 6 small pots of vinca minor to bigger pots. On Sunday DD and I will transplant to their back yard and whatever lettuce I can dig up from the front yard by the fence that I started from seed in April. ALL of those plants were very potbound so I up potted each of them into some compost that I brought over. I potted up the vinca into two old geranium pots with 3 each (10 inch deep pots. ) They had dried out and needed some tlc. All of the others that I bought today were living on the daily watering at the garden center. When we get them in the ground they should be a nice edible ground cover. I'll plant the cold weather plants in the shadiest areas but it doesn't matter if they bolt. We might be able to harvest some of it. ANYTHING to choke out the weeds as we establish more perennials there.

A couple of days ago my grandson and I planted some sprouted potatoes from the kitchen.

Yesterday I fertilized the plants. I noticed a bloom on the tomato that just sprang up. I can't believe what a difference a week has made in the plants they have grown so quick. I still want to plant some cucumbers, zucchini and crookneck squash.

I'm trying to figure out where I could put some winter squash and pumpkin. Maybe at the edge of the pond. Last year nothing bothered them but is anyone bothered by rabbits, squirrels or deer bother their squash type plants. I know on year I tried to grow watermelon but squirrels kept eating them small and green but it wasn't here.
