Look at that Cane, your house made it in one piece!
and the smiley I hardly ever use...
Looks like Cougen has the plan!
Ok, I'd kind of like some closer pictures of your Hostas. Kinda wondering about what kind they are that grow good with sunlight on them. Most Hostas get sunburnt and droopy small real easily if they get more than an hour or so of real sun on them per day.
I was kinda worried about you and Stony last night. Sure glad your Dinwiddie county didn't make the national news!
Yea Marshall, we're glad too. We've had tornado hits 2 Aprils in a row. I think it was 2 years ago that it tore through northern Dinwiddie and did a LOT of damage. Our church's emerg. response crew was cutting trees all night on that one.
That little spot seems to have just the right sun for hostas. This is the north side of the house and the house blocks any direct sun until about 2 or 3:00, then they get a blast for a couple of hours till the oak tree nearby casts a shadow. Then a little more later when the sun is low enough to shine under the oak's canopy but hasn't quite dropped behind the pasture tree line. I'm actually worried that it won't be enough light for the hollyhawks, guess I'll have to wait and see.
It's a giant hosta, all green with deep ribs in the leaves. I used to have some blue and some white & green but the dogs killed those digging in the bed. I'll get you some close pictures tomorrow.
I finally got the battery powered hot wire up around the small vegetable garden. There's nothing planted there yet, except the garlic, but I want to discourage the cats from entering. And Wren, who has no idea that she is not welcome to take up a relaxing position on all that nice fluffiness to keep an eye out for squirrels :/ . I came in for a drink of water and she managed to give herself the first lesson. It was good timing as she won't associate the sting with me. She's giving that area very wide berth and eying it with deep suspicion now.
I also got about 4 wheelbarrows full of customer discarded perennials put in. There are several big clumps of Annabelle hydrangeas, three huge bleeding hearts, and lots of Solomons Seal.
Then I also got some bare root ostrich ferns, astilbe and hosta planted that I had purchased awhile ago and had hanging out in the garage.
I moved a big clematis from the picket fence over to the arbor, I hope it does as well there this summer.
I also moved a shasta daisy that was growing on the lawn side of the picket garden out to the rough shrub border on the edge of the lawn because the thing really stinks when it blooms.
There's so much more to do out there (!!) but my knee is very sore so I had to come in.
I pulled up all the bricks on one of the walkways in my garden. I pulled the weeds and nutgrass that had grown between them, sifted the soil for more nutgrass and smoothed the dirt out. I laid down plastic woven feedsacks and then put all the bricks back. I have several more to go! I won't mortar between the bricks because I don't want to make them permanent.
I did some final work on some beds today, placed a couple 2x4's under the netting to raise it tight, and planted some pole beans today. Bush beans begin going in for the most part tomorrow.
Just raised my feet to rest on my desk and out came garden soil from the upfolded cuffs of my pants...lol! Does sweeping garden soil inside the cabin count as gardening also?
Cane', if you don't already know and your chickens get to the hosta - you will learn quickly how much they like to eat it.
Carried some bok choy out of the temporary hoop house beds. Prepped some beds in the little veggie garden and the bok choy has now found a home there. Only one more bed and it is time to plant some peas . . . then, the beds in the shady corner have to be addressed: "Hi, shady corner beds!"
It was also Weed Whacker time! I've got my glasses soaking in a bowl of soapy water and have already showered and washed my clothes.
You guys are good! I listened to the 40 mph wind gusts and watched the snowflakes drift to the ground...Going below freezing tonight and tomorrow night. Got everything covered in the greenhouse. Spring, where are you??
