Today I dug up my raised bed potatoes and they did really well. I'll put up a pic later. I added some amendments to the bed and turned it over, then I planted square-foot style (in a 3' x 15' bed): peas, 3 types of carrots, bok choi, swiss chard, beets, lettuce, fennel, 2 types of parsley, basil, and for good measure I stuck 3 Athena canteloupe on the end (they'll have to spill over). :D

Today I harvested the onions. They are drying on the picnic table now. I also pulled the last of the beets, probably have enough to run one more batch of pickled beets for Dew. Then I cut 2 heads of copenhagan market cabbage for cabbage rolls tonight, then sprayed the weeds. Taking the rest of the day off and watching the Brickyard 400 while stuffing leftover BBQ beef ribs and tater salad down my throat :D

was sleeping very soundly this morning and was woken by a wet tongue to the face, the dogs figured it was time for me to get up and take them for their morning walk. after a cup of coffee they got their wish.
while out there looked around the garden yup there was picking and pulling to do, rounded up the dogs and headed back to the house feed both of them scramble a few eggs for me yes another cup of coffee.

after putting on a good spraying of off headed back out and picked tomatoes and cucumbers

about 9:30 am the dw rolls in her relief was late, she comes out to the garden tried to give her kiss and a hug, heck no your covered in sweat and mud< well good morning> :smack :gig
been pulling up sick tomato plants and pulled up the original cucumbers and lets not forget the few weeds growing in there as well....

anyway dw informed me since we have 30 qts of tomatoes put away she was going to start making tomato sauce and take a crack at making tomato juice. as for the cucumbers going to make more relish.
the other ones planted will become dill pickles.

dang those weeds..........

Gypsy and I dug all the Yukon Golds. That means half of my potato space is now open for succession planting. I was really pleased with the size and number of spuds. Much better than last year's bitty baby spuds.

Then I pulled all the yellow onions - their stems looked drier than the white or red onion sets. Again, much bigger bulb size than in the past few years. Since I had accidentally planted some extra yellow onion sets in the same space as my shallots - before they grew enough to show - I pulled the shallots as well. Great day! I had planted 8 shallots from the grocery and some of the shallot clusters had more than 8 good sized bulbs each. Last year I 'lost' the bulbs I had planted and didn't get anything to show for them.

Finally was able to harvest a few cukes. I'd gotten them in a bit late so, while they have been flowering like crazy, I couldn't find anything big enough to use until today. I transplanted some small leek plants into part of the ex-potato space to give them more room to grow. Aside from steady picking of beans, beans, and more beans, the only urgent task is to pull the Amish peas and the sugar peas to store for next year's planting.

All the vining plants - squash, melons, etc - are looking great and trying their best to take over the walkways. Got the paths mowed yesterday. Probably will be the last time I can do it and avoid destroying vines and fruit.

So far there have been very few Japanese beetles. In past years they have wreaked havoc on my bean plants. Haven't seen more than one hornworm so far and that was on a potato. I thought last year was the year with no bugs, but so far I haven't had any problems with any pests on any plants. KNOCKING ON WOOD.

I harvested and shelled bean pods most of the day.

LUCKILY I GOT 2 NEW SHELVES!!!

Right before dark I pulled out my pruning shears and made my way down between the north berry bed and the bed next to it. I almost needed a machete! So now part of the junglest part of my garden is passable, but I still have a wys to go to get to the end.

In case I do not return from that task tomorrow, send in the search and rescue helicopters.

I do believe there may be an uncontacted tribe deep in that part of my garden jungle!
