My father loves taking my car in for service, the waiting room as free coffee and donuts. He could spend hours waiting, drinking coffee ,eating donuts and talking to anyone in the room. The battery on my car died 3x so I asked him to take it in. He picked up my car, a short time later called me yelling about how dirty my car was. I had picked up a few trees and had to put them on their side to fit in my suv. I said its not dirt its soil he said when all over my car its dirt. When do you cross the line from soil to dirt?

I look at it the same as weeds. When soil is out of place, it's dirt. Sometimes it can be swept up and returned to soil status.

That's why I use my vehicle to haul things in and pull my trailer. I wouldn't dare put a lot of that stuff in my wife's vehicle.

 :gig what a perfect thread. i NEVER have dirt in my car/trunk - if there is anything, it is soil. HOWEVER, my DH has so much dirt in his truck sometimes, i amazed at how messy he is.

I had a 2003 Ford Focus wagon. I could haul 500 pounds of horse feed in it easily. But I pushed it to the limit and loaded it down with 750 pounds. Driving it loaded like that, it kinda wallowed it's way down the highway. I could tie 3 square bales to the roof too! :gig I totaled it in Houston on Loop 610 one morning. I was fine, but the car was a goner. Always have a "home" wrecker number in your cell phone. They will come get your car and then you have a ride home!

Then I got a 2007 Dodge Caliber because it was cheap, got good gas mileage, had a CD player, 4 wheels and would get me down the road. I really didn't care, it wasn't a truck, so anything would do. I have stuffed 1,000 pounds of horse feed in it. If it can't hang with me, it just can't hang. I am rather hard on vehicles. I did promise DH I would not haul hay in it..........and I did keep that promise for a long time........shrugs........WTH

What's the difference in stuffing a car with half a ton of horse feed or 4 big well fed people?

Dirt? Check. Horse feed? Check. Horse manure? Check. Plants? Check. Chickens? Check. Hay? Check. Dogs? Check. Anything and everything? Check.

It cost DH $45 to get it cleaned up.

At least I've never stuffed a goat in it.

Not yet.

Think that's bad. In the 1970's I was driving through Jacksonville, Illinois, I saw a Packard Limousine sitting at a car dealership. Rare even than. The exterior was beautiful so I stopped and asked the salesman, "How much?" He asked if I had looked at the interior and I told him it was locked. He said, "Yeah, it used to belong to a farmer and he took the back seats out and used it to haul goats." I thanked him and left.

Sitting, not setting.
