@Marie2020 , I wonder how many folks have milk delivery even available where they live :). When I went off to college in a distant city, Mom set up milk delivery for me ♥️. Cheese also, delivery was discontinued in the town the following year.

For 2 months, I lived with train tracks directly behind the house. It was a spur so trains didn't come often but when they did pictures would shake on the wall and it was difficult to talk over the noise. My uncle had only gone through a divorce a short time earlier and didn't live there long before moving. I was gone before he was!

As a kid, I could see and hear the train go by about 1½ miles away. The railroad was on the otherside of farm fields and the Harry & David warehouses . Yes, the fruit basket mailorder outfit ;). Sometimes, a steam engine went by – maybe going off to a wrecking yard or museum or something 🚂. The noise and smoke was tremendous during those events!

I once lived near a train track. But it didn't disturb me at all because I slept soundly then and we didn't have the smoke.

Age changes our sleep patterns and I'm guessing being more aware in life can also have an impact. Oh for the days when life seemed so simple with so many things to look forward to and dream of

Still, as I said already, I'm blessed to have real milk, maybe not as perfect as it was but nevertheless better than store bought in the plastic bottles. No such luck with a local cheese I'm afraid 😅

Part of my vegetable supply is pretty local, expensive but very well worth it.
Sadly knowing how our fruits are today isn't so comforting but at least we have fruit so I still should not complain. The pears I've purchased recently could easily break a window that's really strange 🤔 🤣
Don't worry I have no intention of breaking any windows 😉

There's pumpkin pie in the fridge and apple pie just went in the oven.

Other than that, we wait for DS who is already on his way but Wile E., I mean Steve, has until tomorrow to bring the bird out for dinner.

Coffee!

Please wait another 24 hours. I'm catching the plane over to participate in all the yummies that I know you'll gladly share with me :pop

Happy Thanks Giving to one and all

Here's wishing a Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow gardeners!

My house is still torn up from recent home repairs which are thankfully at an end. The door I kicked has been replaced, exterior light fixture also successfully replaced, and best of all the cheapo vinyl window in upstairs bedroom is gone and a new Anderson window in its place. However I still need to paint the woodwork around said window and reinstall curtain hardware. Then I can finally rehang pictures on the wall and move furniture back where it belongs. Hopefully I'll be able to get this done before my sister arrives for a visit tomorrow.

I spent yesterday cooking a massive quantity of giblets for the stuffing, dicing and chopping them along with celery, onions, and garlic, and cubing a loaf of bread. Today I'll bake the turkey and chicken parts, add the juice to the stuffing ingredients and bake. (I make a separate pan of stuffing without onion and garlic for Mabel the dog.) I baked, mashed, and froze a winter squash several weeks ago, and it is thawing. I bought homemade wild cranberry sauce from Maine. Still need to chop and peel mashed potatoes and cook some frozen peas. The meal will probably not be complete until midnight tonight, but it doesn't matter because I'll be eating it for a week, with half of it in the freezer awaiting the week of Christmas.

We are under a heavy snow watch for later today and tonight. Realization that this could lead to power outages sent me scurrying to get the bird parts in the oven. I have a generator system that takes over automatically, and, while I have heat, water, and lights, it won't run my stove.
