Mayorcatfish, I take it that you are more inclined to side with the blue catfish commercial fishermen of the Chesapeake Bay than the catfish farming industry.

Seems that we now have new regulations in effect to inspect catfish alone of all fish so as to limit competition. Scientific American

This is so often why an industry, and the food industry is no exception, is in favor of regulation. It is much easier for the big players to comply and the little guy to fail and be forced out.

In other types of farming, it is a very touchy relationship between the industry and farmers interested in selling directly to the public. Seems that the industry wants all foods to move through their contract relationships. If the government can help them with that - they are more than agreeable.

@digitS' start off with the fda and usda/fsis, has nothing to do with ohsa! unless when being visited be the first 2 they see something that osha needs to address then osha comes a knocking....

catfish is so in demand..it's the new white meat in restaurants. the fda/fsis has this regulation in affect to stop illegal sales of catfish pouched from inland waterways that might be contaminated with mercury/pcb... etc. and sell off to the public with any disregard to the public health.

as you mentioned "the big players" are going to get as much of the national/global market as they can to turn a profit for their shareholders, what the "little guy" has in his favor is he can sell local, without all the expense as the big players have to pay out. imho if little guy has the right start up plan have everything in place on a smaller scale. that "farm owner" can make a very good living just selling locally/regionally. ...good for them!!!!!!!!!

personally i favor the getting things from the "little guy" yes i might pay a bit more, but i love purchasing from them. knowing my money is staying in the local economy... yes there are times you have to purchase from the "big guys".....

want to put a note on the Little farmer: not all of of them are out there for us , just out there of make a Benjamin whatever it takes....

so dugit's just so you know i am a supporter of the little guy, just have to play by what your government tells you how to do it in a safe manor.....

as long as i work for this company i have to play along with big brothers rules...

had many long conversations today and emails with the osha consultant making sure that what she said i will be in complaint...

"quote" asking a osha person into your business, is like inviting a horde of rats into a cheese factory....

@Nyboy many of the products have sds/msds sheets posted online. When I compiled the msds book for the last company I worked for, I got many of the msds sheets off the internet. Just enter name of product/sds sheet. Place several books in prominent locations and make sure that all employees know where they are. I put the paper sheets in those plastic sheet savers. Ask vendors for sds sheets.

now this is why your boss keeps you around. because you seem to know how to make things last longer than they probably should & he thinks it saves him $ doing it. i'm surprised he didn't ask you to do the oil change on his truck too!
