CrazyFeathers Happenings

So today I spent some extra time mowing the pinecones all the same direction so they can easily be disposed of. We have 7 huge pines that are just loaded with pinecones and I can't stand seeing them in my yard. I get this done just as the black rain clouds are moving in. We close up everything for the evening and head inside but due to my fear of storms I have to go out and see what is going on with the weather situation. Just as I walk out the door there is a huge gust of wind and I stand there in horror as I watch 500 pinecones drop onto my freshly cleaned yard.....:he
Guess what I'm doing again tomorrow? :ep

One of my gardening jobs is on a two acre property with a dozen or more 200 year old Ponderosa pines. The previous owner who was a neatnik perfectionist (self described) used to get out there first thing every morning with her big bag and run around, literally, picking all the cones that had dropped in the night.

I never realized the amount of cones those trees dropped until they sold the property and she was no longer out there on cone patrol. The new owners have a much higher tolerance for tree debris.

Lol @thistlebloom I was out there this morning with my pooper scooper picking up pine cones! Got to use the scooper due to my back injury. I am a neat freak about my yard, I mow a different direction each week and if someone dare drives on my lawn or rides a 4-wheeler across it making tracks well let's just say I get very angry and vocal, it drives my husband and daughter crazy the way I am about the yard but God made me like this so blame him not me lol!
Are the ponderosa pines the ones with the enormous pine cones?

No, they have long needles and the bark has large plates that are reddish orange. They are pretty trees and the old ones at this garden are probably 7 or 8 feet around.
The cones aren't very big. Just prolific!

My father is very lawn proud, he will not let anyone else cut it. Small stamp size lawn takes him 2 days to cut.
@Nyboy I think it's great that your father takes such pride in his yard. We have a home in our area that in all honesty no exaggeration, you could take out a full dump truck of metal and another one of garbage. Every time I drive by this home I just shake my head and wonder why the village/township doesn't make them clean it up. The thing is you can tell that it was good stuff but they left it sit out in the weather and get ruined and just kept getting new things. We grew up kind of like that (in a mess). I was always embarrassed, maybe that explains some of my OCD.
I will take pride over not giving a rats @$$ anyday!

I've been away for a bit... just wanted to extend a late WELCOME to the group @CrazyFeathers ..:frow

Your place has such charm, very very nice!! ... I enjoyed the photos, and your posts! Looking forward to updates... as I hope to be back more often now also.

I wish my neighbor had just a bit of that pride, they mow their lawn twice a year... although it does make my place look all that much better.

Hey @Lavender2 ! :frow

I think every neighborhood has it's slobs. There is one on the paved road before you get to our gravel road that always looks much better in the winter. After a heavy snow...
We've been driving by it for 13 years, and I figured they would surely have lost it to foreclosure or something after just a few years, but they somehow manage to keep living there. And the trash continues to grow.

Last year they actually cleared a small space in the front yard and put sod in. I guess they didn't realize you actually have to water grass. Anyhow, they have since reseeded the dead lawn with junk which is doing fine.
