It's kinda scary when husbands take over our duties. My well meaning husband decided to clean the oven for me this morning. I had oven cleaner on the list, but as usual, he didn't want to wait and do things the right way......

I heard him clanking around and went in to investigate and he yelled at me to get out. Like he was going to surprise me or something? This is a mobile home, it's not like you can keep anything quiet in here. Against my better judgement I left him to his madness. He called me to the kitchen, very proud of himself. He had used Comet cleanser, scraped with my pancake turner, and rubbing alcohol!! :th I popped his bubble when I said, you know alcohol is flammable, right? He got huffy, I just wanted to get out before he turned the oven on.....he washed it down, dried it out with a towel and turned on the oven. It smoked from whatever he did to it or whatever he didn't clean :idunno but didn't catch fire.

If I ever have to have surgery for anything, I'll have to wait until after he dies so he doesn't completely destroy the place.

I'm sure you all are on the edge of your seats waiting for an update on my Great Toe Fusion Experience. So here it is.
Dragging around a 3.5 lb boot on one scrawny foot/leg is no picnic. I have not been very active, understandably, and so now the sciatica is trying to come back, as well as a lot of other aches and pains not directly associated with the surgery.
The actual pain from the surgical procedure has not been horrible. Of course, I had pain pills, and took them religiously for the first 5 days, then began cutting back. I am not allowed to shower, or get the foot wet, so it has been sponge baths for me. I was accustomed to taking a soak in a hot tub nearly every night, just to ease the muscles and relax. None of that for me now.

Yesterday I went back for my second dr visit after the surgery, to have the stitches taken out. OMG.
It wasn't clear to me whether the doc closed the incision or some flunky in the OR did it, but it had been sewn with a whip stitch, tightly and with close stitches, for the approximately 4" incision. The doc snipped it in the middle, and proceeded to pull the thread very slowly from one end. Imagine a tiny auger being pulled through your barely healing flesh. Not screwed, just pulled. Slowly. Then he had to do the other end. OMG!:duc By far the worse pain I have encountered on this journey. I think I'm traumatized.:hide
So of course the foot screamed in pain every time I moved it or tried to walk all evening. I ended up taking a half a pain pill this morning.
I do have an ongoing script for Ultram that I could be taking, but to be honest, I feel like I have gotten physically dependent on it, because I have taken it for my RA for years. I saw this as an opportunity to break that dependence while I was taking the oxycodone.
I can't see how a pain pill can be very effective if you take it all the time. So, anyway. That has been, and still is, my plan.
And now I'm feeling the half pain pill start to take effect, and don't feel quite so whiny.
Sorry to be so long winded, but I haven't really been able to rant about this. Dear DH has been supportive, but he has a bad sinus infection/cough/congestion thing going on, so it's kind of cruel to load him with a bunch of extra stuff.
Oh, in spite of my complaints, the foot is healing well. :)

And, that's the important thing.

What? It's been a week since any whining? You should have been on here immediately upon arriving home yesterday afternoon if'n ya want any whiny awards .. ;)

Would some Advil help? I haven't been even able to take that stuff for years. What do you think - send DH after something a little easier on the body?

Can you get him to help you in and out of the tub for a relaxing hot bath?

Steve

Oh my. Your description of the stitch removal had my feet cringing in
sympathy.
You are apparently not a very good whiner So Lucky, Steve's right, you've been holding back!

If you can't get help getting in and out of the tub, maybe you could get situated then run the water, and when you've finished your soak, drain the water before getting out. With your foot wrapped in plastic of course, just in case.
