The MD said it would now be okay for me to take some of the OTC anti-inflammatories again. I'm being a stoic, however.

He was also the person who prescribed various ones in the past. The first prescription for an anti inflammatory was for Feldene which I was taken off of because it made me feel "weird." I wondered later if the "weirdness" was just somewhat "pain-free." Feldene has a bad reputation for stomach problems, however.

Honestly, I think the start of it all was simply aspirin in the form of Alka-Seltzer. That stuff put me in the emergency room about 35 years ago. I finally realized then that pain relief might be "just a swallow away," but it would be baaaack - so, no more aspirin! It did take me several more years to find that - for me, at least - all anti inflammatories may as well be dropped into the same basket with aspirin. So. That left me with meds that left me unable to fill out a tax form ... meds, I won't use.

i could suggest getting a shower seat but they can be expensive depending on the quality & if your insurance wouldn't cover it or you still need to meet a deductible. if the insurance does cover it for your condition just make sure the doctor puts in an order with a durable medical equipment supplier that's in network.

I use Arnicare tablets for pain. I also like the Arnicare topical cream. It is awesome stuff. A neighbor lady broke her arm right below the shoulder socket and is in a lot of pain. The hydrocodone she is taking wears off before the next dose is due and the pain starts up again. We gave her Arnicare tablets and she takes 3 of them 2 hours after each hydrocodone dose. They are helping her get by.

Well, I have finally figured out a way to take a bath without getting my foot wet! Ahh! bliss!:ya
I filled a plastic portable "file tote" almost full of water, so it stays put in the water, then get in, prop my foot on the tote, and fill the tub. I can hoist myself out while the tub is full, with no problem.

I took my grand daughters into town for some quick lunch and a little shopping yesterday. May have overdone it. But I managed. Driving is not a problem, since the offending foot is the left one.

Yeah, Steve, if you haven't tried Arnica on your sore parts, you might want to try it. It is from a plant, Arnica Montana.
Lots of people swear by Bio Freeze, too.
I even have some of that DMSO, that people were carrying on about a few years ago. It's a solvent, I think. It has been used on race horses. Holy Cow, that stuff stinks and makes your breath stink horribly if you rub it on your skin. You know it's getting absorbed into your system. Scary. You have to be desperate to use it.

I am a fan of wintergreen oil.

The methyl salicylate in some of the commonly available liniments may or may not be from this natural source. I understand that distilling wintergreen gives you a much stronger amount of methyl salicylate than is commonly used in rubs so I wonder about any need to make it artificially. Does absorption of that anti inflammatory through the skin have stomach problem risk? I suspect so.

I still find exercise just an amazing benefit. I have been sitting and playing with my new computer - teamwork at Christmas and the family gave me reason to park myself in front of a 24" screen! Wireless - I have it on a little desk with wheels. I'll tell you what ... I'd better get more exercise than just pushing this thing around the house!

So, my sore shoulder from a month ago was back. Shoulder, elbow and wrist. I was down putting a mat and trim on that new landing of the basement stairs. Sound like an easy little job? I tell you nothing is square! Took me about 3 hours! One thing, the mat was so heavy I must have spent 45 minutes cutting it, with its various parts and angles. Nothing is square! Anyway. The right arm is much, much better today ..!

I do those arm lifts while completing my Indoor Mile but the work with the shears, miter box & saw, and tap, tap, tapping with the hammer seems to have been of "special" benefit!
