Miss Ava is currently enjoying the sun and sand on Cape Cod. Prior to leaving she left me in complete charge of her cantaloups, but told me NOT to pick any melons until her return on Saturday. It has been an amazing process to watch them going from green to a golden tan in just a few days, and, it may be my imagination but I think I can smell cantaloupe when I walk near the plants. Miss Ava is not going to call this project a success until she has personally sampled the melons, as for me I think we have been darn lucky.

Cantaloupe is one of my favorite fruits. I can't wait for Ava to get back. I don't trust you Jackb!

I'm sure they are gonna be great and she is gonna be over the moon. :)

Remember, one of the secrets to sweet cantaloupe is

DO NOT WATER THEM AT ALL FOR A WEEK BEFORE YOU PICK THEM

I am going to send her the photo this evening to whet her appetite. My son and several of his friends went out on a boat today to swim with the sharks. It was a small boat with a shark cage and they let you swim with and photograph mako and possibly great white sharks. We got a text a few minutes ago saying they were on their way back in and all were safe, but sea sick. While I am glad they are safe, being sea sick serves them right for taking such a risk. Why men feel they have to do these things is beyond me.

6 plants is all? Jack, surely Ava wants 6,000 plants! :D

I bet at 5 she'll know where to plant them. All around town!

You know how awesome it is you're doing the gardening thing with her at that age? In 80 years she'll be telling her great grandkids some of her earliest memories were gardening with you.
Hopefully I'll be there to agree with her... :/
So Excited for you and Her!! congrats and hope the melons do wonderfully!!

I think someone wrote that cantaloupe will simply fall off the stem when ripe, well that is exactly what happened today. I guess it is for the best, as my wife has been fretting that some critter would get the melon before Miss Ava. She is coming back tomorrow, so I placed it in the fridge and we will give it to her Sunday. There are probably another dozen melons in her garden, so she should be happy with the way I tended her melon patch while she was vacationing. I must admit that this has been an interesting project, however, Miss Ava has already said that next year she wants to go back to planting green beans. ;) I am ready to call it a success, but I am not in charge.
