No, these are all Sockeye (reds) Silvers will start showing up in our streams within 2 weeks. They are good eating too but around here the preference is Reds, Kings then Silvers. Now that i no longer have the ocean boat, Kings are a thing of the past.

In theory maybe but these nets are large and somewhat un-gainly. Most of the folks use nets 5ft diameter and those fish are gilled when they swim into the nets. When they “run up the river” they are moving at a pretty good clip. It’s not uncommon to have a fish move your net 5 feet! One person had 4 in the net at once today. 7 at a time was last years record. I’ve never gotten 2 at a time and happy with that. It’s totally crazy when they are running and multiples also multiply crazy. Im pretty adventurous but prefer a mellow approach.

Surprisingly few fish are caught in the shallows.

After a nice long, hot bath i’ll massage my poor hands with Lavender and Peppermint oil and fix dinner. And; it’s Monday so it’ll be Salmon!

Those fish regardless of what type they are I would be diving in like a little kid in a candy store. I absolutely love fish and I don't care what type even blue gill.

I’m in Oregon and in early spring is a good time to fish for salmon by boat - no motor very early at sunrise when the fish are feeding.
We went with a tour guide and caught 32 and 37 pounders. Lots of salmon in the freezer.

The Rabbits are happy that i’m back on track with the Garden. The early morning fishing put a crimp in their breakfast. They still got the normal pellets and Hay but i skip the “green’s buffet” due to the time required.

All around the mowed section of the property i’ve planted red mammoth clover in a roughly 20ft. Swath. For multiple reasons but mostly as an augment to the Rabbits summer diet, which also includes a big Comfrey leaf and a handful of willow shoots every day for each Bunny!
Some of the season good (big) dandelion and plantain are numerous and always find they’re way in there as well. Lesser additions would include yarrow, mojito mint, yellow sweet and dutch white clover and damaged Broccoli or kale leaves.

This tray is divided up between 4 bunny’s.

@Alasgun beautiful lush green garden pics. Lucky rabbits have a great diet. For many years we had angora rabbits.
May I ask what kind of rabbits you have ? There are so many different breeds. It’s fun to go to the state fairs and look thru the rabbit exhibition.

My buck (Earl Grey) is a purebred Satin and i keep one Pure bred Satin Doe, to be able to continue the line.
Also i keep a pair of Champagne deArgent doe’s for production.
I raise Rabbits mostly for the poop and with this group; there’s no shortage!
With only 2 of us at home 15 butcher bunnies a year is plenty, leaving me between 15-30 to share in the community, depending on how the year plays out. I only breed each of them twice a year.
Everything on the place is Organic and i ship a pallet of Modesto milling organic pellets from California once a year.
They live a no stress “lap of luxury” life!

Wow you have some nice rabbits. Champagne- the color changing rabbit see those a lot at the fair patterns are unusual. They are poop machines for sure. Organic farming takes dedication and is always important.

Today i made the hour long drive over to Palmer to get my Timothy Hay for the year. The hay was beautiful this year so i let my “eyes be bigger than my stomach” you might say and brought home a dozen bales. In one year my bunny’s will eat 3-4 bales, so im good for a bit. You never know what next years weather may he like? The second cutting is really nice but my Rabbits prefer the long strand fiber more than the leaf’ier 2nd cutting.

The bluff’s you see on the horizon are on the other side of the Matanuska river. This table land only extends 10-15 miles and is some of the richest farm land in the State. Several types of hay along with Carrots and Potato's are grown in this area.

In the fall i’ll get a side of Beef from up here along with a couple sides of Yak from up in the interior. That time of year is a lot of work!!!

Today i brought in the Anise Hyssop and got it on screen’s and a few more Tomato’s for sauce!
Once dry, i strip the leaves and flowers from the top 2/3 of these stems and store as tea. I don't need Mint this year so i’ll probably process it the same way and give the dried tea away.

If i can get everything mowed this afternoon; i might be able to get back to fishing

Wow gorgeous tomatoes. I can smell the anise from here. Just the mere mention of anise and mint my brain goes into “OL Factory” mode.

Today on the news half of Oregon is on fire so far 800,000 acres have burned effects wild animals , homes and loss of business and life.. In Oregon and Washington alone 1,100,000 acres have burned. This is a historic wildfire season. Air quality not that great. The sun is blocked by smoke. At least the temps have cooled down in the upper 70’s. But the storms lightening is what has caused all the wildfires with the exception of two fires human caused.

As seen on tv news, Alaska has over 300 wild fires burning . Stay safe .

Like i mentioned, “i use it all”, talking about the Salmon! Once these skeins are dried a bit; they’ll be vacuum sealed into useable size bag’s and frozen.
From here on out thru the fall and winter they are a preferred bait.
