Thistle, I am glad that your food regimen is working for you and hubby. :celebrate I did cut down my food portions down to about 1/2, and we only eat unprocessed foods. However, when I increase fruits and vegetables,as sugested by nutritionists / dietitions , my blood sugar skyrockets and I pack on the pounds. :th The things that works for me is to eat mostly meat and other high protein foods with MINIMUM amounts of breads, pastas, rice, fruits and vegetables. This year I have lost over 30 lbs. and my blood sugar has droped down by an average of 120 points. :thumbsup Since we all inherit different genes from one another which makes us all unique, makes for what works for one doesn't always work for another. :idunno

Steve, I think it's those laps you're doing around the house! ;)
Here's something we can apparently credit to exercise, noted in research involving 1.4 million people!

"Exercise may significantly reduce your risk for many types of cancer." (LINK)

It's not know quite how it reduces the risks.
"Overall, a higher level of physical activity was associated with a 7 percent lower risk of total cancer, the researchers reported." The significance of some types, as with cancer of the esophagus, is amazing: 42 percent!

We have known about the cardiovascular benefits. Here is protection against various cancers!

Carol, my husband was overweight when we married. He tried every (starvation) diet there was, but none of them were sustainable. He would lose but as soon as he went back to his old habits, he gained it all back, plus more. Finally I bought a book that listed calories for food items. I compared apples to a doughnut. Hmmm.... you can have ONE doughnut at 198 calories (and WHO is going to eat just one???) or ONE apple at 95 calories. Which one can you eat more of? As we went down the list, it made more and more sense to him. It took him a year, but he lost 75 pounds. He has a sweet tooth and just can't give up the sugar, but at least it is better under control.

Taking the pounds off slowly like you are doing, is the smart thing to do. Sure the big weight loss is impressive and makes you feel great, but slow and steady wins the race. I am proud of you for mowing the lawn. Not only is it good exercise, but the accomplishment of looking behind you to see what you just did feels pretty darn good too! By the end of the summer, it'll be so easy!

Needing to ice the knee -- not so good -- but the mowing is great! It is mostly walking, but at the highest level of energy expended than any other walking activity. Good job! So proud of your hard work and consistent effort.

Is it time for another photo?

Thanks @Smart Red Pushing the mower over our very lumpy yard is work. An ankle twister. It was my achelies (sp?) tendon that was hurting most.
