I would highly recommend physical therapy at an outpatient facility. If you have to pay out of pocket for services, out of all that you listed, physical therapy wasn't on your list. Will your insurance pay for it? If not, it would be worth every penny, even if you have to pay out of pocket. My husband had physical therapy after a triple bypass and a knee replacement, neither of which is as severe as what happened to your wife, but the PT contributed to his full recovery. Insurance--you pay and pay and then it lets you down.

Yesterday afternoon, I stormed the hospital and got away with my wife with nurses in hot persuit. I won. We made the escape safe an sound and she is now residing in our living room and all snuggled up in her recliner. :thumbsup Kaizer provided a oxygen machine as well as a HUGE oxygen tank in case power goes out. She has an appointment with our Doctor on Tuesday with physical therapy to follow shortly as soon as she becomes slightly more mobile and the HUGE hematomas resorb. Reclining excersizes only for now. I had to get a disability plack from the Motor Vehicle Dept. What a run around ... Washington has offices for car registration and / or driver's licenses only and a few that are a combination . I had to go to 4 different offices in Vancouver as directed by each one as they were refered by the previous one but with no cigar before I found the place that issues this permit. Too , it seems that it is protocal to hide street addresses from the public for all businesses, so one can drive for blocks on end without seeing a single address. Took me 2 1/2 hours and many miles driven all over town and back and forth on the streets to find the well hiden offices. Pure LUNACY !!! :he

Things should get a little easier now, just being home is a big step in recovery, I know it was for me. Slow but sure is the way to go, I'm so happy for both of you :).

@bobm, I forgot to ask has your wife got a walker? If not would it be possible to rent one for her, it would make it much easier to get around until she gets her strength back. Up here we can rent just about anything from the Red Cross for a nominal fee.

Yes, I got a walker for my wife. We also rented a oxygen machine. Best of all our two playmates ( now 4 months old ) are comming all of the way from Cal. to play with grandma. Our 2 gradkids ( our personal doctors ) in Ore. will come to our house a couple times a week for medical advice and perform a complete physical . The nurses at Kaiser gave them a good supply of medical supplies to assist in their practices. :weee

I know everybody tells you this and kind people have told me to take care of myself along with my DH. The stress of a family member being so ill is overwhelming. Your whole life changed. The insurance, the money and I went through that and acted like it was nothing, but it was hard. I realized after reading all of your posts and how much you have helped your wife that something changed for me in the last year. I do spend more time on the computer. I had stacks and stacks of books, papers on cancer, chemo, medications. With having to work typing for my job, I spent all the extra time researching all the medications, his disease, treatments, vitamins. Hours I should have been up and doing things. Take care.

My wife had some severe pain in her chest the other day at 10:00 PM , so I called 911 then an ambulance ride to the closest hopital. The Docters checked her out and ordered chest x- rays. At 2:30 AM yesterday morning the Doctor came in and told us that she had 7 BROCKEN RIBS from the first ambulance folks doing chest compressions to restart her heart . :th She had been complaining of chest discomfort when at OHSU and at Kaizer hospitals but the doctors wrote it off as normal due to chest compressions. :hu We will have a house call from our PERSONAL DOCTORS (our grandson and granddauther ) on Sunday when they will do a complete medical examination. :love
