I really don't know how to use this forum, when it comes to using tags and quotes or the # signs in front of numbers. I've been on here less than a year. I could use some help from the ones that's been on here using this forum for years.
I thought I would eventually figure it out but have not completely.

Been trying to update a previous post on parsley seeds for three days rather than replying to my own post. Looks like when I try to quote it, it looks like it's repeating the whole paragraph. Really confused?

Also I've seen other quote boxes left and right side and lower boxes.
I'm totally confused?
To many quote boxes.

I'm thinking rather than starting a new thread of a previous post of a particular subject just quote my own post of the previous post of same subject would be necessary rather than editing it. Just don't understand at this point. All I can do now is just post and reply.

Maybe think of the forum like a tree, Dan.

The forum is the trunk. The sub-forums are branches. This "feedback & announcements" is a sub-forum. Your post creates a thread. There are many threads, fewer sub-forums, and one main forum.

The forum's webmaster is the only one who can start a new branch, sub-forum. Members can post new threads or reply to existing ones.

A hashtag # will not bring similar topics or words together in search results. First look for a sub-forum with a title that comes close to your interest. If you want to explore more past threads there, you can type in a few words and limit the search function to those words. Post a comment and others will see that in their alerts, the what's new, the new posts, or as they are scrolling through a sub-forum. Otherwise, create your own thread with a title and a comment. Other gardeners will find it the same way and can respond there.

If by 'updating' you mean editing a post that you wrote, I tend to use the 'edit' feature to just make changes to my original post. There is, however, a time limit for this function. Very old posts cannot be modified by the author-- but a request can still be sent to the moderator if something important needs correcting (spelling error or factual error, for example.)

And when replying to a post, if the whole paragraph repeats I put my cursor in that box and delete whichever parts of the post are irrelevant to my response (for brevity.) Hope this helps. I too am still on the learning curve. ;)

I'm familiar with the edit box.
As if you left something out or miss-spelled a word. You can immediately edit and correct the post.
If you posted something two weeks ago and wanted to update it two weeks later in what you discovered over a period of two weeks. Members would have already read the message and would know longer be a alert notification to read the message the second time and would not know the message was ever a edited update is my point.
Unless you created another thread on the update from previous message.
Edit is a correction from a previous post. Not a alert update with the little yellow dot.
Does that make any since to you?
Or am I over thinking details.
Dan
