I suspect that liking the flavor doesn't have anything to do with addictions but disliking may help to avoid them.

I was academically trained by anthropologists, mostly by linguists. That's a bit ironic but I did try to overcome hearing problems during those years by beginning to wear hearing aids.

What I found myself eating, sometimes with no intention and little knowledge, would be somewhat embarrassing to relate. I began eating red meat again during that time. Perhaps I could say that it would have been ironic if I would have tried to continue to not eat meat. Some of those dishes would have been considered "byproducts" and not food by many in this country but, I care only so far as to protect sensibilities and the innocent.

who cannot remember having anything stronger than a beer and is sure of not once having more than 2 of any alcoholic drinks in 2016.

I didn't explain the okra reference. Many people think of okra as bitter.

Another one that gets the bitter rap is kale. I can't grow okra well, based on only 1 season of trying, I think. Kale has almost become a staple! We recently tossed the last of what was in the fridge and DW bought some kale!!! I'm almost willing to object!

You can get the resveratrol benefit that is one of the supposed benefits of red wine from other sources. Red grapes, blueberries, peanut butter, dark chocolate and others. There may be other polyphenols that red wine contains not found anywhere else, I don't know anything about that.

Certainly if it's the antioxidants found in wine that you're seeking you can get them from a number of whole foods.

I had a friend who was told by her dad to drink a beer a day while she was nursing because it would increase her milk flow. :rolleyes: Because of the b vitamins in the brewers yeast he said. I always thought that brewers yeast was a by-product of brewing...
Seems to be a lot of old wives tales and hearsay entwined with a little science in these health claims.

I didn't drink coffee until I was 38. I enjoy it, and look forward to my morning cup, with more than a little half~n~half in it.
It's possible that I have a lack of taste bud development, but if that's so, then it's alright with me.

Red wine, beer, coffee - all are (or can be) strongly flavored. Red wine is the one that is supposed to be good for you, but I too find most of them to be unpleasant, especially the drier wines. It would feel like taking medicine. :tongue I prefer lighter, sweeter wines like White Zinfandel. But red wines which I might otherwise dislike (usually served to me by others) can be OK sipped along with a meal. I'm not enough of a gourmet to know what wine complements what food, so that is a crap shoot for me. :idunno

DW found a "fruity Sangria" that we both find to be pleasant, and it is just a cheap box wine. Cheap is not necessarily inferior, if it suits your taste.

I'm very picky about coffee as well, excessive bitterness in anything does not suit my palate... unless I am trying to stay awake, in which case it can kick me in the teeth with my blessings. Instant coffees, in particular, are generally revolting. The only one I enjoy is an Asian instant coffee, that comes in long cello packages (sleeves?), something that I am glad I tried. Funny, one of the Asian names for instant coffee is "weasel coffee".

Never been much of a drinker but I used to like making wine and even beer, not a fan of red wine even one or two small glasses will give me a doozy of a headache. DS#1 says it's the tannin that does me in. Before he retired he worked for the liquor distribution board and managed a couple of liquor stores before moving to their head office. He's given me some pretty fancy ice wines over the years and his dad some pretty special bottles of scotch:tongue. Drinking his mom's home made stuff wasn't his thing, snooty kid.

I used to enjoy a glass of Zinfandel or other white wines with dinner but lately I just don't feel the urge, rather have a glass of water. What makes a cool refreshing drink in the summer is a white wine cut half and half with tonic water.

We don't drink much coffee anymore, maybe two or three cups a day but we found a brand we really like https://www.kickinghorsecoffee.com/en/coffee/kick-ass-whole-bean they make several blends but we like their 'Kick Ass':).

Bee another wine you might want to try is spiced wine. Brotherhood makes a good one called Holiday. You heat it upand drink hot. They only make it around Christmas time so you have to stock up if you like. You can also make your own spiced wine by adding spices to red wine
