Boggy b,

I have just found this very interesting Australian site which has a lot of info on growing veg in dry conditions. It has lots of links within the blog that are fascinating & would certainly help any of us in long, dry periods. This particular article is about Rajasthan in India.

**** I have posted a separate thread on this subject for the sake of other members of TEG who might not have an interest in 'Allotments' but who garden in arid areas.

Hattie, you're an encyclopedia!! :hugs
Just watched ALL the videos on
http://www.kitchengarden.co.uk/
Now, I KNOW why my carrots fork--they look like little torsos
THIS year, my carrots are growing in pots!!!
I didn't know that you can force cabbage to produce a second crop.
I love how they use pruned trees for supports--I have my own collection of saplings and MANY more that need to get chopped. You just gave my gardening addiction a shot in the arm.
Thanks!! :hugs :ya

ducks4you,
I am so glad the videos were useful -- it is such a useful site. I 'm subscribed to it so it comes up in my email.

You are very kind in your praise of me but it's really not true, it's my lap-top which has thousands of encyclopedias in it plus everything else. I just have a never-ending (I hope) curiosity about life with all it's winding turns....!! :celebrate

Because I am not always very mobile now I go exploring on the internet, whereas I used to have to do my research in libraries & museums of the world, in between working as a designer in the theatre & eating my way around the world. I was so very lucky to spend my working life doing a job I adored doing.

I urge you all to use those fingers to ask your computers questions -- it is truly amazing how much info is out there. Thank you Google.......! :bow

When you find something interesting & relevant share it (but make sure you credit the source as I do).

Hi Hattie....Can't believe I'm saying this.....we've got an accumulation of snow on the ground and predicted to snow all day. The last time we had snow, to amount to anything (that "stuck") was in 1973.

Helloooooooooooooooooooh boggy b !!!!!............................................can you see me through the snow-flakes.......??????

Hope you have everything you need to keep your wife & you and any animals warm, cosy, fed & watered? It's difficult when you get serious weather in areas that are not used to it. Show us a photo of the extent of it.

Did manage to cover up any delicate plants? I reckon I have lost a lot this winter.

Take care of yourselves & I hope it doesn't last too long.

Hahahahaha....these nutty drivers around here, can't drive, safely, in the rain....let alone snow and ice. Already, reports of multiple car accidents in the city, 10 miles from here.

Am afraid, I have probably lost most, if not all, of my veggies. (didn't take the weather report seriously...they're wrong about 99.9% of the time, it seems), just have to wait and see. But still early enough to start over, if I have to.

:frow Good morning boggy b,

How is the snow situation in your part of the world? Here it is just cold & damp..! A little frost overnight.

I'm still poorly so I'm inside research on my laptop & feeling sorry for myself :hit

I think I have found a really interesting site but I haven't read it all yet:

http://desertification.wordpress.com/why-this-blog-why-this-content/

It is supposed to have some interesting photos of gardens in India but I haven't seen them yet. It is not the easiest of sites to use but I won't be beaten.......!! ;)

Hi Hattie,

Well, the snow turn to rain, melting most of the snow. Then it turned back to snow...only this time harder with a little more accumulation. Most of it's gone this morning, except in the shaded areas. Quite an "event" for this part of the world.

FINALLY, got through all the Soilman's archives and, while exploring the side bar, found this blog that seems interesting and intertaining:

http://www.growingyourownveg.blogspot.com

Sure am rooting for you to get better...just think of it this way....as each day of suffering comes to an end, you're one day closer to recovery.

Am looking forward to checking out this new site you have posted.
