Hi Hattie,

Been reading 'The Soilman's archives' (and laughing, sporadically) and see mentioned planting potatoes for first early, second early, main crop.
Pretty much, here, we plant once, just before spring and once in late summer or very early fall.
So (again with the questions), is the different "crops" of potatoes, over there, determined by the kind of potato planted, the time of planting and harvesting or, maybe, the size of the potato at harvest?

I tell you what, HiD....Hattie should get a trophy for "patience and stamina"..... for putting up with a butt-load of questions from an old gardener that doesn't even live in the same hemisphere. LOL....no, really.

Thanks, Hattie.

Aaaw guys!! I've come over all shy & humble....................!!!! :hu Don;t know what to say now......except Thank You, it's been great fun. I like a long non-agressive thread with intelligent chat & a bit of humour......!! I have learnt so much here on TEG it is nice be able to show you a bit of the UK's contribution to gardening (let alone the rest of the world). I was lucky enough in my working life to travel & see many different areas of the world which enabled me to expand my horizons & knowledge on so many aspects of living. Now I have slowed down a lot physically I can still 'explore' on my laptop.......:bow

So much to learn; so much to do! :D

Here is a nice Swedish blog which has nice gardening stuff on it in the summer. It has a tranlation button on it.....!

Good morning!
I was watching the Breakfast Programme on BBC TV this morning & there were 2 slots on SS subjects. One was a preview of a new series by Monty Don. The second was a report about various large building sites in the north of England & London being turned into allotments, gardens, football pitches etc.

Monty Don, a huge fan of traditional crafts, presents Mastercrafts, the programme which celebrates six of the traditional crafts that built our nation and its heritage

Ah potatoes.....!!! boggy b :D I have to confess I have always thought it was when they were ready for planting. :D
But here is some extra info. I only grow the little waxy salad kind as we can get a very good selection of varieties at decent prices from the supermarket -- the salad kind are much more expensive, so worth growing at home.
