I apologize I didn't brew a pot this AM finishing up the leftover coffee from yesterday plus the coffee level is really low so not trying to use it up until it gets closer to Friday seeing how NOT going shopping until this weekend. Yes, I have an almost full jar of the fake "instant" stuff that has been there for me whenever I needed it so I could use it if I really needed to but hoping I won't have to until at least Sat AM.

Ugh. Halloween. My heart isn't in to a celebration of death in 2023.

The next-generation of kids — yeah. I mean, it's why I enjoy living so close to an elementary school :). They are so fun to watch. Have you noticed that when you put 5 year olds together on a playground, everywhere they go, it's at a run. You can recognize the 4th graders when they show up. Calm down! Yeah. What happened?

Smaller kids are like birds ;). As I look out my living room window these schooldays, I'm reminded of this Robert McFarland quote as he looks out the train window:

"Trundling north on a train through the Fens’ dark earth, now shining almost purple after rain.
A faint rainbow over farm buildings & below it a flock of sixty or so Lapwings, blue-black backs & white bellies, turning & turning like thrown dominoes."

Steve :)

I have coffee, I’ll share.
Good observation about the children Steve. Comparing 4 year olds to a flock of birds is a good analogy.
40F here, high of 57F, going to be sunny all week. Will be windy today so no burn pile. Tomorrow and days following, the winds will be low and I’ll do another burn pile.

cold here this morning. anything warm would be nice. even washed my glasses and wiped them dry while they were still warm and put them on and thought of heated glasses... i mean if you can have a heated steering wheel why not heated glasses? at least for a few moments in time... :)

that's pretty much all i've got for today. shelling beans (working on the last bag - not sure i will finish today or not as it depends upon how much sitting i want to do) and puttering around. too cold and blah today to go outside. chances of snow later. freezing over night.

Well I really don't like the taste of the coffee I've been drinking but it does camofloge the taste of the unflavored collagen.

I've decided that I like coffee with chocolate and nuts overtones
Mary, Bulletproof has a collagen with chocolate. They also have one with vanilla. I like either flavor with coffee and thinking about trying collagen.

I have thought of Bulletproof as a coffee company and tried one of their products, years ago. Obviously, they are not that limited.

The 2 Jack O'Laterns I did, simple but cute. Maybe next year I'll take my time and do something more elaborate and scary with pumpkins but I don't know yet.

I've spent pretty much the whole day setting up altars for Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead, although at my house it's pretty much Week of the Dead, since I won't disassemble them until next week). A dear friend/neighbor showed up with a home-made Pan de Muerto (Bread of the Dead) which was an amazing surprise. I celebrate the holiday because I have more dead friends and relatives than living ones, but her son-in-law and grandchildren are of Mexican heritage, so she is trying to learn their traditions for when she retires and moves to Texas where they live. She said this was a practice loaf, but I can't imagine it could be improved on. Some people are born chefs, and I wish I was!

Also I filled a big bowl with candy and have a shopping bag full of the overflow that wouldn't fit. I hope many trick-or-treaters will show up and make off with most of it. Waiting for them now....

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF NOVEMBER!!!!
Once again I have to apologize for not brewing a pot but Y'all can fix a cup or glass of Iced Coffee if you want, There's also tea bags and Hot Cocoa packets by the pot just make sure the filter doesn't have any coffee grounds before making hot water.
I attached pics of myself from last night (1st pic is partway getting ready- had to stop in order to go pick up dinner and didn't want to scare people too bad, 2nd pic is finished look). Had a LOT of compliments on the yard (told them wait till next years display!!!), had a couple 3-5 year old that got scared right off the bat even had a 1 year old that didn't want to walk past the yard at all. It's amazing what you can do with just regular makeup and NO fancy HALLOWEEN makeup.
